Wipe Your Nose Archive

Nose gestures emerged from its function, by the sense of smell.

And can be expressed for mockery, disgust, displeasure, unpleasant.

But at the same time pointing or touching the nose with the index finger imply ‘self’ and ‘identity’ in Japan and China. (In the East one speaks of the self by designating the nose, where’s in the West, one touches one’s chest.)

In the Arab world, to touch the tip of one’s nose means ‘oath’, “I swear it on my nose.”

To sniff while sliding one’s finger implies “That stinks,” in the literal sense and the figurative.
